Björk increases attack on industrial open pen salmon farming

21/11/2023

Icelandic singer Björk has condemned industrial salmon farming in open pens as "extraordinarily cruel". Björk said Norwegian companies Mowi and SalMar were damaging "large areas of our fjords, marine life, animals and plants . . . Industrial salmon farming in open enclosures is horrible for the environment. Farmed salmon go through immense suffering and cause serious damage to our planet."

"This is an extraordinarily cruel way of making food," she said. "The fight against the open-fishing industry is part of the fight for the future of the planet . . . The world is beginning to realise that salmon farming in open cages is based on terrible suffering and death".

Bjork's protest single with Spanish singer Rosalia will be released on 21 November 2023.
