NOFF 2025 Elections Candidate Survey released

09/07/2025

On Friday 27 June, and again on Wednesday 2 July NOFF contacted 29 of the 31 Franklin electorate candidates by email, with a survey designed so we could share each candidate's views on salmon farming with you. Two of the candidates proved uncontactable. Our survey period has now closed. We have responses from the Greens and the Peter George group.  We have no responses from the ALP, Liberals or David O'Byrne. We have again followed up with these groups and await their replies.

We will be happy to update these results should any candidate wish – please email to our secretary.

Those that did respond answered YES to each of our six questions, and most added comments, which you can read here, including the wording of each of our six questions:

We did our best to find out where each candidate stood, but as a charity we cannot support or oppose any individual or party. Our statements will always be related to our overall objectives. We told the candidates that we would publish their responses, or lack thereof, on our website, without comment as indicated in the link above.

Appropriately our survey focused on salmon farming issues, so should you want more information about other policies in this election you may find value in the ABC's Tasmanian state election 2025 promise tracker , which covers a broader range of issues. There is a simple explanation of how Hare-Clark vote counting works on the Tasmanian Electoral Commission website – scroll down to "How do we transfer a surplus?" And Tasmania's answer to Antony Green, Kevin Bonham, has a very detailed discussion on how best to optimise your preferences (spoiler alert, no simple answers!)
