Tasmania's largest salmon producer was fined $78,000 for breaching environmental permit condition at a hatchery on the Tyenna River, a tributary of the Derwent River.
A Right to Information request by the Tasmanian Inquirer has found that the EPA issued Tassal with four infringement notices in 2024, each with a $19,500 penalty, for breaching licence conditions at its hatchery.
The document does not include the reasons for the infringement, but in 2023 the EPA warned Tassal over the operations of its hatchery, and in 2022 warned Tassal of concerns over high levels of pollution, including nitrogen.
