An adventure is born...

22/04/2026

When Sarah first had the idea of doing a bikepacking trip, it was really just about trying something new and pushing herself out of her comfort zone. Then a friend threw out the idea, why not use it to give back somehow?

At the same time, Sarah had been hearing more and more about the impacts of salmon farming on Tassie's southern coasts, and the expansion plans in Storm Bay, right where she lives, works and spends so much time in the ocean. It started to feel like something she couldn't ignore.

So she decided to turn the trip into something more. She'd document the journey, share the coastlines she moves through, and learn more about the industry as she goes, bringing people along with her. Big protests and crowds aren't really her thing, but taking on an adventure, doing something she's never done before, and using that to stand up for the ocean? That feels right.

And so Stoke and Spokes was born...

The journey

Sarah will ride from Lauderdale, where she lives, to Cloudy Bay at the very southern end of Bruny Island. Along the way she'll surf, dive and camp, hoping to meet and chat with locals and hear their experiences of living on these beautiful coastlines - and what they think about the salmon farms.

She'll also meet up with scientists, campaigners and community members who are standing up for Tassie's oceans, pushing back against expansion plans, challenging the salmon giants, and holding the industry to account!

Sarah will be documenting the trip as she goes on Instagram - follow along here!

The film

LowCo Au will join Sarah on her ride to document the journey, with the hopes of producing a short film to inspire other ocean lovers to stand up in their own way!

The Purpose

Sarah will raise funds and awareness for community-led group, Neighbours of Fish Farming. NOFF's campaigns and successes over the years can be found here.
