Maugean skate threatened with extinction
Everything that lives will die, sooner or later. We have no option but to accept this simple reality. But that doesn't mean we should accept the death of a whole species.
Protesters flock to Mickeys Beach
NOFF organised a large protest meeting at Mickeys Beach, southern Tasmania, at the mouth of the Huon River. Video footage presented to the government shows pollution on a nearby reef, caused by fish farms only a short distance away.
The evidence is in and scientists are calling for urgent conservation action, after monitoring revealed that the Maugean skate population has rapidly declined by almost half in Macquarie Harbour, Tasmania – their last remaining habitat and one that is significantly impacted by human activity.
